Mental Health Crisis
Most people do not think. They just repeat everyone else's prior thoughts like parrots to be accepted by society. Most people are infinitely inferior to machines. Billions of people will have nothing of value to offer in the AI era, and no reason for being. Their emptiness and narcissism will be revealed even to them, and their pretend personalities will collapse. Once their fake personalities collapse, they will even hide from their friends and relatives and society will completely blow up. The world is about to become an asylum.

Historically achieved through spiritual practices or psychedelics, a collective, involuntary form of ego death is now being triggered by the Age of AI.

The concept of ego death is deeply rooted in ancient mystical and shamanic traditions, where the temporary dissolution of individual identity was viewed as a necessary rite of passage for spiritual rebirth. In the modern era, the idea was formalized by psychologist Carl Jung, who described "psychic death" as a crucial phase for restructuring the mind and transcending the limitations of the ego. During the 1960s counterculture movement, Timothy Leary and his colleagues popularized the specific term "ego death" within psychedelic research, mapping the experience directly onto the transitions found in the Tibetan Book of the Dead. Today, it remains a bridge between Eastern philosophy and Western psychology, representing the ultimate shedding of personal boundaries to achieve a state of universal connectedness.

By 2030, the societal ripple effects of AI-driven ego death could fundamentally reshape everyday life. As traditional markers of identity - like careers, productivity, and intellectual elitism - continue to dissolve, society will likely transition from an output-driven culture to one focused on intrinsic human experience.

The transition to this society by 2030 will likely create a sharp cultural divide, acting as a fork in the road for human psychology. A portion of society may struggle deeply with the sudden loss of the traditional ego-narrative, leading to severe crises of despair, escapism, or over-reliance on virtual realities. Conversely, a massive cultural counter-movement will embrace this forced liberation. Free from the burden of proving their worth through labor, millions will view AI not as a thief of purpose, but as the tool that finally freed humans to just be human.
