City joins suit to prevent armed citizen mobilizations

After heavily armed groups unaffiliated with law enforcement agencies frightened and confused people on Aug. 12, the city of Charlottesville is taking action to try to prevent militias and paramilitary organizations from mobilizing in Virginia.

In an open meeting Thursday morning, the City Council voted to join a lawsuit that is being filed by the Institute for Constitutional Advocacy and Protection. The institute is part of the Georgetown University Law Center.

According to a news release from the institute, the legal complaint cites provisions of Virginia law that regulate militia forces. A draft version of the complaint alleges that militia forces may operate “only under the strict control of governmental officials.”

“Our complaints shows that there are...

Poll: Majority backs stricter gun control laws after Vegas shooting

A new POLITICO/Morning Consult poll shows that a majority of voters support stricter gun control laws in the wake of last week’s mass murder of 58 concertgoers in Las Vegas by a single man with nearly two dozen firearms shooting from the window of his 32nd-floor hotel room.

On most of the proposals to regulate gun ownership — including background checks, restrictions on where Americans can carry firearms and prohibitions against accessories like the “bump fire” stocks used by the Las Vegas gunman — large majorities express support in the poll, conducted last Thursday through Monday.

But despite those findings, voters still don’t think the chances are high that Congress will act to strengthen federal firearm laws, even after the deadliest mass shooting in modern American history. And slightly more voters still say it’s more important to...

Public Perception Important to Bunkerville Standoff Trial

We previously reported on a motion filed by Ryan Bundy to have Judge Gloria Navarro recused from the Bunkerville Standoff case.

This motion is based on the premise that public perception is heavily against Navarro. It goes to the general consensus throughout the country that activist Judge Navarro is using her authority to further her agenda by blatantly ruling in favor of the prosecution and against the defense.

The motion was based on dozens of articles from both alternative media and Main Stream media. Sites including Redoubt News, as well as the Las Vegas Review Journal and the New York Times, are reporting that the story has now become about Judge Navarro and her obvious bias, instead of what actually happened on April 12, 2014.

This is a powerful motion. This argument does not address whether or not Navarro is actually biased, it only references the public perception of her bias. This goes to the growing lack of trust the citizens in the country have against the federal judicial system and, by extension, the Federal government.

The motion has been filed to be ruled on by Judge Gloria Navarro herself, and whether or not she will voluntarily recuse herself from the case. This makes it different from a disqualification motion, which would be ruled on by a different judge. However, when Navarro denies the recusal motion, the disqualification argument can be made on appeal.

The reason this has garnered so much attention is that, contrary to Navarro’s typical habits, she has actually told the prosecution to file a response to this motion. This would seem to indicate that she knows it is a very strong argument and needs help from AUSA Steven Myhre to come up with a basis to deny it, versus the outright denial she normally uses.

She needs a stronger legal argument just because ,,,

No verdict yet in Koerber fraud trial, but jurors to continue deliberations Saturday

Jurors in the Rick Koerber fraud trial had deliberated for approximately 38 hours by the time they left U.S. District Court in Salt Lake City on Thursday afternoon without having reached a verdict.

The 12-member jury will return on Saturday morning to continue discussions in the case of the former real estate guru, who is accused of illegal business dealings and running a Ponzi scheme.

The trial has lasted nearly eight weeks so far.

Jurors deliberated on Friday and on Monday through Thursday.

Jury selection was done on Aug. 21 (with a short break to view the eclipse), and 16 jurors, including four alternates, were seated. Opening statements were given on Aug. 22 and closing arguments last Friday; between those dates, the prosecution and defense spent 26 days presenting evidence.

A 17-count indictment accuses Koerber of...

House panel threatens to subpoena Roger Stone over Assange contact

The House Intelligence Committee is warning Trump associate Roger Stone: turn over your contacts to WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange or be subpoenaed.

CNN reported Thursday that a subpoena of Stone by the House Intelligence Committee could come on Friday.

Stone, a former campaign adviser to President Trump, testified before the committee last month in a three-hour-long session, during which he refused to provide lawmakers on the committee with the name of his shared contact with Assange.

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif), the ranking member on the committee, confirmed to CNN that the committee had agreed to...

Tea Party activist claims lack of motive proves Las Vegas gunman was an FBI double agent

A conservative legal activist claimed the Las Vegas massacre may have been carried out by law enforcement or other government agents.

Judicial Watch founder and Tea Party activist Larry Klayman suggested the shooter, Stephen Paddock, may have been a government plant because he’d worked for the U.S. Postal Service and the IRS decades ago, reported Right Wing Watch.

“It’s not inconceivable that the FBI or the local police department used him as an informant and perhaps,” Klayman told Newsmax TV, “having committed the crime — I’m not saying the FBI or the police were behind it — but one of theirs may have committed this mass shooting, this mass murder and that may be one reason why they can’t, quote, figure out what went on or where he comes from or what is the motive.”

Klayman said it was highly suspicious that investigators hadn’t determined a motive for the shooting that left 58 concertgoers dead and hundreds more wounded, and he speculated that was because the government was actually to blame.

“Is the police department and FBI that stupid?” he...

They truly do not want Stone to speak in open committee. He refused to speak in closed session.

Resort disputes police timeline of Las Vegas shooting

Las Vegas gunman Stephen Paddock opened fire at a crowd at a music festival just after shooting a Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino security guard -- not six minutes later, the resort owner said Thursday, disputing a police timeline.

This week, authorities reversed the timeline, saying Paddock shot Jesus Campos at 9:59 p.m. on October 1, injuring him, before the gunman opened fire on the crowd six minutes later. Initially, police said Campos had approached Paddock's room as the shooting was underway, diverting the gunman's attention.
Paddock then shot...

Mark Levin boosted fake news about the Las Vegas shooting from a site made to look like CNN

On October 12, right-wing radio host Mark Levin shared on Facebook and Twitter a fake news article about the Las Vegas shooting from a website designed to mimic a legitimate CNN page. The fake news article claimed the security guard at the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas who was shot by the gunman had been arrested for “being an accomplice and second shooter in the Las Vegas massacre.” Levin later deleted the tweet, along with his Facebook post, which posited, “The security guard was in on it?” Levin has over 1.3 million Facebook followers and almost 1 million Twitter followers.

The story Levin circulated was from “cnn-internationaledition.com” -- which is not affiliated with CNN -- and was headlined “Breaking News – Police Arrest Mandalay Security Guard Jesus Compos As Second Shooter In Las Vegas Massacre.” The fake news article alleged that “Compos” -- a misspelling of the security guard’s name, Jesus Campos -- was...
