U.S. SUFFERED COLDER-THAN-AVERAGE APRIL The United States just suffered a very cold (and snowy) April, which delayed spring planting and also drove heating demand higher, putting additional stress on already creaking global commodity markets and supply chains. The Lower 48 finished with an average temperature of 50.68F in April. This is -1.17F below the 1991-2020 baseline, and astonishingly –at least for members of the AGW Party– was colder than many of the April’s of the late-1800s and 1900s. https://electroverse.net/u-s-c...ll-grips-antarctica/

So not only have 25 million metric tons of grain been sidelined in Ukraine. And not only have fertilizer exports been shut down; we have Eddy Minimum weather fucking up crops world wide. Food riots are coming to tier one countries, probably before the end of this year, certainly by next spring. You don’t want to be in a big city when food gets scarce.

Is this what you're talking about? Solar Cycle 25 Forecast Update published: Monday, December 09, 2019 22:30 UTC The NOAA/NASA co-chaired, international panel to forecast Solar Cycle 25 released their latest forecast for Solar Cycle 25. The forecast consensus: a peak in July, 2025 (+/- 8 months), with a smoothed sunspot number (SSN) of 115. The panel agreed that Cycle 25 will be average in intensity and similar to Cycle 24. Additionally, the panel concurred that solar minimum between Cycles 24 and 25 will occur in April, 2020 (+/- 6 months). If the solar minimum prediction is correct, this would make Solar Cycle 24 the 7th longest on record (11.4 years). Nice graph at the link https://www.swpc.noaa.gov/news...e-25-forecast-update

The Eddy Minimum will bottom out 2028-2032 with Little Ice Age crop failures similar to other minimums that took out 40% of Europe. The additional pressure brought on by the Ukrainian fiasco is just icing on the cake to a perfect storm.

Probably why the nuke deal is on the table. It would be much easier to maintain rule of law if a large percentage of the population is taken out quickly and blamelessly. I suppose if I had a pretty good idea of what’s coming and in charge I would consider war a viable option.

What I find interesting is the only two countries on the planet that are self sufficient in energy, food and nukes (and likely to remain self sufficient through a GSM) are at war. Any other country could throw a fit and nobody would give a fuck.

PRIME CORN YIELD ALREADY GONE Corn farmers across the much of the U.S. are unlikely to net high yields this year because their planting has been delayed significantly by cold and rain, according to an Iowa State University agronomist. ![]()

The grow belt is wet and cold past May 24th. That would be the drop dead plating date for corn. Therefore this years corn crop is screwed.

The current estimate is down 4.3% from last year, which was tied for highest production ever at 15.1 bbu. Not apocalyptic, but when you add that on top of inflation, food is certainly going to get expensive. We had a 15% y/y drop in 2012 and comparatively insane drops in the 80s and 90s, over 25% and, in 1993, more than a third. South America was mostly on target with their crop. I haven't seen any good estimates of what Ukraine might produce, it seems that shortages are more likely to be logistical than absolute.

I keep tellin' ya it's the year to plant turnips. There's still time to scramble for alternative crops. Corn can be planted two weeks late right over the turnips. An advantage to this cold wet, with days barely over 55 degrees, hay will be thick and sweet this summer. Hay Man said to expect to pay $14 a bale this year, I'm not getting a baby beefer.

I can see this happening in the major food chains around. There's security in some of the store parking lots here, but they're as worthless as tits on a boar. The article will be the new norm from here on out.
