Bought a 1600 watt Power Station with Solar panel. Kind of for camping and emergency. 1600 watt.

So I buy an electric throw, 100 watt only. The blanket comes (Amazon) and says on tag: DO NOT use with generator, power converter or an inverter!!

Called the company I got the Power station from, said they had no idea why, it could handle it and to contact blanket seller. i did, no answer yet.

Any idea why that would be an issue?

Is it one of those idiot issues? The blanket is actually washable. They said don’t have it plugged in while putting in washing machine.

But I need answers why this could be an issue. Would it potentially harm power station? The thing (blanket) has Japanese wiring but made in China. And, made by Homemate, whoever they are.

It doesn’t make sense, but I went through the Dallas Snowpocolypse, 2020, so just tying to be prepared. Already have a propane gas generator. Needed something for inside home.

Kinda pissed.

Invest in insulated coveralls for you and your hubby. Wear long johns underneath the coveralls. Inside animals should have coats. Temperature sensitive pets are to be put in a small...heated room...use a buddy heater powered by propane. Have several filled canisters of propane as back up. Having heat will be a luxury if the grid goes down. Trust me your coveralls(and boots) will be very valuable....and sought after by others.

Most likely, it has a digital controller that requires true sine wave power. It might be damaged or, worse, not regulate temperature correctly on square wave power.

My guess is that, since your power station is just a big battery with an inverter, it probably provides sine wave power and would be fine, but since most consumers won't understand the difference, they put a scary warning label on it to stop people from letting the magic smoke out of their electric blankets. You should double check that your product provides true sine wave power, since it would suck to wake up on fire. It should have pure sine wave (PSW), not modified sine wave (MSW).

Okay, when you say providing pure sine wave, your speaking of the battery and not the blanket?

This was the answer I was wanting. It has 5 levels of heat and a ten hour shutoff. And I’ll check into the sine wave, good to know. I was more worried about screwing up the $1,500 battery than blowing out the $60.00 electric blanket, but I don’t want to go out in flames either. The Anne Heche story still keeps me up at night.

UB works!

Thank you for sharing your knowledge. We have smart peeps here.

Update, the battery power station is
Pure Sine Wave, 2000W total (surge 5000W),

I use a 12 volt heated throw under my sleeping bag when I go camping. It was a godsend when I self isolated in my RV with the rona.

Try it out. I think you will be just fine. They don't draw very many watts.

The Power station company could see no reason why I couldn’t use the electric blanket with their product. They asked me to to contact the blanket seller. I did.

Here is the answer from the Amazon seller as to why they didn’t want me to use anything other than the household outlet for the electric blanket. I kind of think it’s stupid. This is what they said:

Thanks for your reply. The design of our electric blanket is based on the stable output voltage and frequency of the American household power supply. We have not evaluated the stability of the output voltage and frequency of the generator and Power Station supply. Based on this point, we can only ensure the safety of connecting to the normal power supply. If you can be sure your power supply is stable, use it…

………

I think it’s an excuse to avoid any accident by being over cautious.

Gonna use it anyway. With my fingers crossed of course.

lmao
